Privacy Policy

Élan Tracker is designed to respect your privacy. Your training data stays on your device and in your private iCloud. We have no servers, no account system, and we never see your data.

In short

  • No analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no third-party SDKs.
  • No account, no login, no email or password required.
  • Your data is stored on your device and synced only through your private iCloud account, which Apple encrypts and which we cannot access.
  • Elan reads your Apple Health data to display it. It writes to Health only the workouts you track with Apple Watch and the perceived effort you log.
  • Sharing with friends is optional: nothing is shared until you have invited someone or accepted an invitation.
  • Your exact location never leaves your device. If you allow it, only an area of about 100 m is shared with your friends.

Who we are

Élan Tracker (“Elan”, “the app”, “we”) is a workout and strength-training tracking app for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. This policy explains what the app does with your information. Questions? Email [email protected].

What the app handles, and where it goes

Training data you enter

Exercises, records, performances, notes, workouts, your units and preferences, and an optional profile (a display name and a photo you pick yourself).

Stored locally on your device and synced across your devices through your private iCloud (Apple’s CloudKit). It is never sent to us or to any third party.

Apple Health data

If you grant permission, Elan reads your workout and fitness data from Apple Health to display your activity and progress — for example: workouts and their routes, active and resting energy, steps, distances, heart rate, heart rate variability and heart rate recovery, VO₂ max, running metrics, perceived effort, sleep, respiratory rate and wrist temperature during sleep, body measurements such as weight, lean body mass, body fat percentage and height, as well as your date of birth and sex.

Elan writes only two things to Apple Health: the workouts you track with Apple Watch (duration, energy, heart rate, distance, segments) and the perceived effort you log for a workout.

This data stays on your device and in your iCloud; it is never sent to us. If you share with friends, your workouts and some of their metrics become visible to them: see “Sharing with friends”. You can change or revoke access to Health at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Health, or from within the app.

Location (optional)

Elan asks for your location only if you turn on “Share my training area”. At the start of a workout tracked with Apple Watch, the app then captures your location once and immediately reduces it to an area of about 100 m. Your exact location never leaves your device and is not kept. For a workout whose route is in Apple Health, the area may be derived from the starting point of that route.

This area is visible to your friends in Elan, to spot those who train in the same place as you. It applies only to workouts that take place after the setting is turned on, it is removed automatically after 30 days, and right away if you turn the setting off.

A workout’s route is displayed on an Apple map and is never shared with your friends. To display the name of a workout’s city, the center of the area is sent to Apple’s maps service.

Photos and videos

You can attach photos to an activity. Elan keeps a reference to the photo in your photo library, not a copy. If you grant access to your photo library, the app searches it, on your device, for photos taken during a workout in order to suggest them to you.

You can also film a set: the video, without sound, is saved to your photo library and nothing of it is kept in Elan.

Apple Intelligence (on-device)

Some features rely on the language model built into your device (Apple Intelligence): turning a photo of a written workout into a session, understanding a performance dictated or typed as a single sentence, summarizing a workout or a period. Text recognition and this model run on your device. The app sends this content neither to us nor to any third-party server.

Subscriptions

Premium features are sold through Apple’s App Store using StoreKit. Purchases and renewals are handled by Apple — we do not collect or store your payment details, and we use no third-party purchase service. The app only knows whether you currently have an active subscription.

iCloud sync

Syncing uses Apple’s CloudKit in your private iCloud database, tied to your Apple Account. Data stored there is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. Because it is your private database, we as the developer cannot read it. If you sign out of iCloud or disable iCloud for Elan, syncing stops and your data stays only on the device.

Sharing with friends (optional)

Nothing is shared until you have invited someone or accepted an invitation. Sharing uses Apple’s CloudKit Sharing: shared data stays in your iCloud, in a space that only the friends you have invited can read. We have no access to it. Accepting a friend’s invitation shows you their data; showing them yours is a separate choice.

What your friends can see, as read-only:

  • Your profile: the display name and photo you have chosen.
  • Your performances: exercise, result, sets, date and any notes.
  • Your workouts from the last twelve months that are in Apple Health, whichever app recorded them: activity type, dates and duration, energy, distance, heart rate (average, curve and recovery), steps, swim strokes, segments and their scores, perceived effort, temperature and humidity at the start. You can hide activity types in the app’s settings.
  • Photos attached to an activity: shared by default, which you can turn off photo by photo. Your friends receive a reduced-size copy, removed after 30 days.
  • Your reactions and comments, the workouts you indicate you did with a friend, and the custom exercises and workout types you have created.
  • Your training area (about 100 m), only if you have turned this setting on.

What is not shared: your weight and body measurements, your sleep, your readiness score and training load, your resting heart rate, your heart rate variability, your VO₂ max, and the routes of your workouts.

  • To invite someone, the email or number you enter is used to find their iCloud account and to prepare the invitation message, which you send yourself. It may remain on your device as that friend’s name; it is never sent to us.
  • The email address associated with your Apple Account may be shown by iCloud to the people you invite or whose invitation you accept.
  • Data received from your friends is kept on your device only.

You can remove a friend at any time: they immediately lose access to your data, and theirs is erased from your device.

Notifications

Elan’s notifications are prepared on your device: the end of a timer, a workout to fill in, a friend’s reaction or comment, and reminders if you turn them on. If you use sharing, Elan also receives silent notifications from Apple (CloudKit) to sync in the background; they contain no personal content.

Apple services used

Elan calls no third-party server. Its only network exchanges go through Apple services: iCloud for sync and sharing, the App Store for subscriptions, Apple Maps to display a map or the name of a city, and iCloud Photos when an attached image is not on the device. Your exercises, performances and workouts are also indexed on your device for Spotlight search and Siri.

Permissions the app may ask for

  • Apple Health — to read your workouts and fitness data, and to save to it the workouts tracked with Apple Watch and the perceived effort.
  • Location — only if you turn on sharing of your training area.
  • Camera — only to film a set.
  • Photos — to choose an image, to suggest the photos taken during your workouts, and to save to your photo library the workout cards and videos you keep.
  • Notifications — for the timer, your friends’ activity and reminders.

Elan does not request access to your Contacts, microphone, or calendar, and does not use any advertising identifier (IDFA).

Retention & deletion

You stay in control of your data:

  • Delete records or workouts inside the app to remove them from your device and iCloud; they also disappear from what your friends see.
  • Disable iCloud for Elan to keep data on-device only.
  • Deleting the app removes its local data from that device. Data in your private iCloud is managed through your Apple Account (Settings > Apple Account > iCloud).
  • Remove a friend to revoke their access.
  • The training area and shared photos are removed automatically after 30 days.

Children

Elan is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country) and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Your rights

Because Elan stores no data on our side, you exercise your rights of access, correction and deletion directly on your device and in your iCloud account. For any request under regulations such as the GDPR or CCPA, contact us at [email protected].

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date above.
